Painful Patellar Partita Complicated with Intraarticular Ganglion
نویسندگان
چکیده
Painful patellar partita complicated with intraarticular ganglion cysts arising from the cruciate ligament is difficult to diagnose from the symptoms alone. In the patient reported here, knee pain was caused by patellar partita and by cysts attached anteriorly to the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL). The fragment of the bipartite patella was excised, and the cysts were resected arthroscopically in a piecemeal fashion. Knee pain and limitation of motion both resolved after surgery. We hypothesize that the pain and restricted range of motion were caused by both the bipartite patella and impingement of the ganglion cysts between the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and PCL. In particular, sudden onset of vague pain in this patient was likely to be due to impingement of the ganglion cyst between the ACL and PCL.

Infra-patellar fat pad cysts are an uncommon type of intra-articular ganglia. We report a case of a young woman with a painful little mass in the anterior aspect of the left knee. Ultrasound revealed a multiloculate cyst, that was initially drained with a spinal needle. Four months later, she had a recurrence of symptoms and a ultrasound guided aspiration was performed. Cytological examination ...
متن کاملAnatomy, Biology and Biomechanics of Patellar Tendon Autograft Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction
Autologous bone-patellar tendon-bone autograft is a common choice for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction and from both biologic and biomechanical perspectives is well-suited for this purpose. A centrally harvested, 10 mm wide patellar tendon graft has an estimated initial load-to-failure of 2977 N, and interference screw fixation of associated bone blocks provides initial pull-out streng...
متن کاملLong term safety, efficacy, and patient acceptability of hyaluronic acid injection in patients with painful osteoarthritis of the knee
The increasing prevalence of painful knee osteoarthritis has created an additional demand for pharmacologic management to prevent or delay surgical management. Viscosupplementation, via intraarticular injection of hyaluronic acid (HA), aims to restore the favorable milieu present in the nonarthritic joint. The safety profile of intraarticular HA injections for painful knee osteoarthritis is wel...
متن کاملIntra-articular Ganglion Cyst of the Long Head of the Biceps Tendon Originating from the Intertubercular Groove
Ganglion cysts commonly occur around the shoulder, mostly in the spinoglenoid and suprascapular notches. We report a very rare case of intra articular Ganglion cyst of the long head of the biceps tendon that originated from the bicipital groove as a rare cause of shoulder pain.
متن کاملChanges in Morphological and Elastic Properties of Patellar Tendon in Athletes with Unilateral Patellar Tendinopathy and Their Relationships with Pain and Functional Disability
BACKGROUND Patellar tendinopathy (PT) is one of the most common knee disorders among athletes. Changes in morphology and elasticity of the painful tendon and how these relate to the self-perceived pain and dysfunction remain unclear. OBJECTIVES To compare the morphology and elastic properties of patellar tendons between athlete with and without unilateral PT and to examine its association wit...
